First of all you need to recognize your need for salvation. God looks at the
heart of a person while some people think of themselves as good moral people
who do good deeds. These people don't realize their need of a Savior because
they are trusting in their own goodness and deeds. A person in that situation
lacks the faith required to believe that Christ is who He says He is and do
not realized that life without Christ is a life without hope.
Romans 6:23 says "For the wages of sin is death, but the
gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord".
Becoming a Christian in more than giving up a few things and more than going
to Church - no one was ever born a Christian. Becoming a Christian requires a
willingness on your part to fully surrender to God's plan and desires for your
life. You have to reach out to Him in faith to accept the free gift of
salvation He wants to give you. Surrendering your life to Christ provides you
so much more than you could ever gain in your life without Him.
Below are some guidelines to help you realize the need of Christ and steps to
take to surrender yourself to Christ:
1. Realize you are lost, a sinner, and are separated from God because of your
sins. "For all have sinned, and come short of the glory
of God". Romans 3:23
2. Repent or turn from sin and turn to God. To repent is to be sorry for your
sins, to regret the way you have lived and to seek forgiveness. We can't have
eternal life without God's forgiveness.
"In Him, we
have redemption through His blood, the forgiveness of sins". Ephesians 1:7
"For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten Son, that whoever
believes in Him should not perish but have everlasting life". John 3:16
3. Confess to God your sins. Confession means to admit you are a sinner and
need help. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and
just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness". 1
John 1:9
4. Believe God and obey His word. Trust Jesus to be your Savior.
"Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be
saved". Acts 16:31 "I have come that they may have live, and that they may
have it more abundantly". John 10:10
